Hey, I’m Jon. I'm a watch enthusiast, photographer, guitarist, product engineer, and designer–yeah, I wear a lot of hats.
OversizedHour is a project fueled by my own search for watches that fit my wrist size and stand out with confidence. This site is a mix of recommendations, research, and a deep appreciation for the details that make watches special.
The idea for this site came from personal experience
While shopping for a watch years ago, I quickly realized that anything under 42mm just didn’t work for my wrist (which is about 19.5cm or 7 ⅔ inches). Yet, everywhere I looked... Instagram, watch blogs, enthusiast websites... most recommendations were for much smaller watches, with 38mm or 40mm models often described as “just right.”
That might work for some, but on my wrist, a 38mm watch just looks tiny. I like a larger watch. It got me thinking: if I was struggling to find the right watch, surely others were too. And so, the idea for OversizedHour was born: a place dedicated to simply larger watches.
This site, and the watches featured here, aren’t about pushing oversized watches on everyone. It’s about finding what fits. I wear larger watches because they suit my wrist, but size isn’t just about case diameter. Lug-to-lug distance is just as important.
If you have a 6 ½-inch wrist, a 44mm pilot watch might not be the best fit (and yeah, I’ve heard all the “dinner plate” jokes). But on a 7 ½ or an 8 inch wrist, a 45mm watch can look perfectly proportional. Like any piece of jewelry, a watch should complement the wearer as a whole.
I’m 6 feet tall with a 7 ⅔-inch wrist, and my ideal case size falls between 42mm and 45mm. Though I could go down a millimetre if the lug-to-lug distance works, or go beyond 45mm if they’re short enough. Your mileage may vary, and that’s the point: it’s about what works for you.
What's OversizedHour about?
This site is more than just a directory of large watches. It’s a place for enthusiasts who appreciate the craftsmanship, design, and presence of timepieces built for those who prefer or require a larger piece. Whether you’re searching for the perfect everyday watch, a deep-dive diver (and I'm obviously not talking gaudy Invicta divers), or a chunkier chronograph that fits your wrist, we’re here to help you find the right fit.
If you’re as obsessed with oversized timepieces as I am, or simply want to find something that looks good on your wrist, stick around. Explore, discover, and find the watch that speaks to you.
